Hey there! Just wanted to say this is a great little guide so far. Im new to roleplaying - my boyfriend and his usual group of rping pals (theyve been doing it for years together) invited me to take part in their new low circle ED game. Earthdawn Editions. Earthdawn 3rd and 4th editions seems to require a GM guide and a Players guide to run. It looks as though 1st and 2nd can be run with only the core rule book though. Is that correct? What books would you call high priority beyond the core book in the first two editions? I see there is a book on magic, 3 books on races, one.

It was an age of heroes; an age of fantastical deeds and mythical stories. My main takeaway from The Earthdawn Gamemaster's Guide is that the decision to split the game into two volumes was not a fruitful one.
Sure, it makes sense to keep the monster stats and magic items a secret, but I see no reason to segregate the climbing rules, and certain things, like the setting information do active harm to the game by being hidden away in a GM supplement.
It has been some time since my review of the new Earthdawn: Player's Compendium (which really must be read prior to this review) and I hoped to be able to present this review as a playtest rather than capsule review.
